What You Need to Know About Abortion and its Costs

First, there are multiple types of abortion. There is the surgical abortion, in which a patient's uterus is dilated to remove the fetus via suction, vacuum, and/or curette. As with any medical procedure, there are health risks.

Then there is the abortion pill, which is ingested orally. The abortion pill is also commonly referred to as a medication abortion. Approximately 10 percent of those who take the abortion pill also have to undergo the surgical alternative after the pill does not work, adding to the overall cost of the abortion (Mayo Clinic).

In southern Nevada, the abortion pill (medication abortion) alone can range from $500 to $600. Surgical abortion procedures range from $600 to $3,000, depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, which can be confirmed through an ultrasound. Ultrasounds can range from $90 to $200.
